Born in Harlingen, Texas, on October 7, 1948, where I grew up on a cotton farm. I graduated from Harlingen High School in 1966. I have two degrees from Texas A&M. I served both as a United States Marine, and also in the Peace Corps. I lived abroad almost twenty years, mostly in Europe, and travelled around the world.
